Deliveroo customers in Singapore have generously rallied to donate over $50,000 for charity organisation Food from the Heart (FFTH) since December last year, with Deliveroo matching the first $10,000 worth of donations, bringing the total to over $60,000.
The funds were raised through the delivery platform's in-app donation feature and have benefited 1,500 low-income school age children and their families who are beneficiaries of FFTH's School Goodie Bag programme, which focuses on providing underprivileged primary and secondary school students and their families with food rations and better nutrition.
As part of its long-term partnership with FFTH, Deliveroo is extending its support to raise funds for the charity organisation's 'I CAN Award'. Short for Improvement in Conduct, Attendance and Non-academic performance, the annual award initiative celebrates the resilience and achievements of young beneficiaries who are part of the School Goodie Bag programme. From today, customers can log into the Deliveroo app to search for "No Child Goes Hungry" to make donations the same way you would place a food order on the platform. The donations raised will go towards purchasing items such as vouchers and trophies to reward 90 students and their families for their outstanding accomplishments.
Alongside the in-app donations, Deliveroo will also hold a physical food drive* at their super kitchen, Deliveroo Editions at Alice@Mediapolis. From today, customers can drop off donations of food staples such as cooking oil, rice and canned goods at the Editions site, which will be distributed to disadvantaged families under FFTH's food programme.
"We are tremendously thankful to our customers for participating in our fundraising initiative in support of disadvantaged children and their families. As Deliveroo strives to remain socially responsible, we are continuously searching for ways that the company and our customers can support those in need. We hope to count on their continued support to raise funds for FFTH's 'I Can Award' to motivate underprivileged students to seek their highest potential. We also hope to encourage our customers to donate essential food items to our food drive, especially important during these trying times. We believe that together with FFTH and the support of our customers, we can help play an important part in the young beneficiaries' journey." said Sarah Tan, General Manager, Deliveroo Singapore.
"We are pleased to have Deliveroo as a partner to help rally for donations and are grateful for the total amount of donations generously raised by Deliveroo and its customers in our previous partnerships together. Thank you for supporting us and those in need in the community. With the upcoming 'I CAN Award', we are extremely heartened that Deliveroo has stepped forward once again to facilitate getting people to donate to our cause. The food drive and donated funds will make a positive impact on the lives of so many young beneficiaries and their families. We look forward to another meaningful and successful partnership with Deliveroo in our efforts to alleviate child hunger together," said Sim Bee Hia, CEO of Food from the Heart.
"The School Goodie Bag food pack has helped us save on our grocery bills. I am very grateful for FFTH's support over the last four years, especially since they have included more nutritious items like milk in the food pack. My kids need to have breakfast for energy and they have it with the cereal, which is also given," said Teo Lee Yan, FFTH beneficiary.
Deliveroo's long-term partnership with FFTH is part of Deliveroo's community-focused campaign in Singapore, No Child Goes Hungry, to tackle food insecurity among children, with focused initiatives around contributions to philanthropic causes and community service. In October, Deliveroo rallied its customers to raise funds for FFTH's Clean Plate Campaign and pledge their support towards building a zero food waste society.
